Conwy Council has recently signed up for the campaign by making all staff aware of the benefits of giving to charity via the workplace.
The Chief Executive Byron Davies is very supportive of the campaign, like many councils across the country who are joining the scheme or re-launching dormant schemes.
Mr Davies believes “The Geared for Giving initiative highlights a really important issue. If people are made aware that their donations to charity can be worth up to 40% more if made through the workplace because of tax efficiences, many would choose to give in this way. Lack of awareness is the issue we’re tackling here.”
When Conwy Council discovered that most of their staff didn’t know they had the scheme available they decided to have one to one promotions which began a few weeks ago. On the first day alone, the number giving though the workplace more than doubled.
Chief Executive Byron Davies says: “it’s now available to our 5000 staff and we’ve had very positive feedback. It is something I’d definitely encourage other councils to take part in.”
